New Treatments for Sickle Cell Disease
Sickle cell retinopathy (SCR) is a progressive, sight-threatening ocular complication of sickle cell disease (SCD). Advances in systemic care have significantly increased the longevity of individuals with SCD, resulting in a growing population at risk for the disease’s chronic, end-organ complications, including retinopathy. This article reviews current knowledge of SCR, with an emphasis on risk stratification, classification, and the evolving management landscape.
